Awarded Tree 2025 Farmers of the Year for Southern MN

A little slice of heaven rests between the bluffs of Southeast Minnesota’s Driftless Region and the South Branch of the Root River. In the 1960s, previous owners registered the Preston property as a certified tree farm. Since then, woodland stewardship has passed through several families, each adding their own chapter to the tradition. We stepped in to take a turn in 2015.

We’ve managed buckthorn, cleared storm damage, harvested firewood, and planted new trees. Yet the greatest joy of stewardship has been welcoming guests into the lessons, rhythms, and renewal this sacred space offers (Wood & Water Retreats).

With gratitude for those who came before us and hope for those who will follow, we thank the American Forest Foundation (American Tree Farm System Program) and the Minnesota Forestry Association for honoring us as the 2025 Tree Farmers of the Year for Southern Minnesota.
